In 1936 Oliver Messel designed the set and costumes for the film of Romeo and Juliet produced by MGM in Hollywood. The film was directed by George Cukor and starred Norma Shearer (to whom the book is dedicated) and Leslie Howard. Includes a facsimile signature of the designer. This is the only edition ever produced. It is a charming edition of the play and was published as a souvenir of Messel's work on the film. Shakespeare's text is accompanied by high-quality reproductions of the original set and costume drawings created by Messel.
Priced at $299.

Fu Baoshi was a Chinese painter from Xinyu, Jiangxi Province. In 1933 he
went to Japan to study the History of Oriental Art and brought Japanese
visual elements to the Chinese ink painting tradition.
He was the director of the Jiangsu Province Chinese Painting School and a
vice-chairman of the Federation of Chinese Artists. His works of landscape
painting employed skillful use of dots and inking methods, creating a new
technique encompassing many varieties within traditional rules. He was able
to create an old, elegant style through his integration of poetic atmosphere
and painting techniques and became the representative landscape painter
of his time.
